Mixed Media Performance Piece Accompanied by Live Music 15 minutes (2023)
Ash Appadu was the recipient of the "Lewisham Arthouse Award" at the end of their degree at Goldsmiths University. This opportunity provided funding, mentorship and a wonderful exhibition sapce at Lewisham Arthouse. Appadu used this opportunity to conintue exploring Mr Goat's world further and push the bounds that puppetry could allow Mr Goat to shapeshift to. The Performance acted as a ritual for Mr Goat, the audience watch him awaken in his new form, interact with the portals he once came from and then help him through the hindu riutal of putting garlands around his neck.
Centering puppets in the work, Appadu created a large scale mechanical goat puppet that was operated by 3 people. They also collaborated with musicians of the 3 week run of the show to create 3 events each with originals scores that were developed in live time along with the perfomance piece creating an organic and theatrical exchange of sound and perfomance in concersation real time, allowing Mr Goat to momentarily be in our world.
Appadu explored themes of spirituality, trans identity and human relations with objects in this piece.
