Ash Appadu is a designer and maker of puppetry who has been passionately focused on the craft for the last 3 years. Having got their start as an interdisciplinary artist, they explore ways to intertwine this into their puppet making practice. They received the Lewisham Arthouse Award in 2022 for a puppetry piece named “Is that you Mr. Goat?” and soon after began their journey as an intern at the prestigious Little Angel Theatre. As part of this opportunity, theydebuted their first children’s puppet show, “Where the Water Falls” inLittle Angel Theatres Children’s Puppet Festival in summer of 2023. The show was described by Everything Theatre as a "A delightful debut production exploring themes of identity and personal conflict, but which offers a positive resolution.” Themes surrounding intersectionality, Trans identities and their Mauritian heritage feature consistently in their work. They have recently embarked on an exciting journey with the Homo Faber Foundation and Oliver Hymans, training in Historical marionette wood carving to help aid the reinvigoration of a craft that has recently been added to the endangered crafts list.
